¨      October 5 - Educators’ Day at the NEARC conference in Groton, CT

      Teacher presentation on using GIS to map historic downtown areas

 

¨      Oct 9/10 - ACTEM conference

 

¨      Oct 15  - Earth Science Day and the MaineStateMuseum

      Presentations on geocaching and using a GPS unit to map local features

 

¨      Oct 24/25 – NESTVAL conference at UNH

 

 

¨      Nov 8 – Family Geography Day at the MaineDiscoveryMuseum in Bangor.  This day’s them will be the interconnectedness of our food supply with activities and snacks from around the world.

¨      Nov 15-23 – Geography Awareness Week www.geographyawarenessweek.org

 

¨      Nov 19 – GIS day www.gisday.org 

 

¨      Nov 21-23 – National Council for the Social Studies conference in Boston MA. www.ncss.org.  Several teachers will be doing presentations on integrating Geography into the k-12 classroom and enhancing geospatial skills and content. 

 

Other upcoming events:

2015

¨      March 6-26 – the Giant Traveling map of the Pacific Ocean will be in Maine. Call to schedule a visit to your school

 

¨      March 21-22 – Maine Science Festival at the Cross Center in Bangor.             

     MGA will be there with the GTMap of the Pacific Ocean.

 

¨      March 27, 2015 -  Maine Geography Bee at UMF. One hundred Maine students compete for prizes and a trip to the National Bee in DC in May.

The mission of the Maine Geographic Alliance is to expand and improve geographic education from Pre-Kindergarten through University by assisting educators with high-quality geographic materials, lessons, and workshops for implementing Maine's learning results.
